Limani Hospitality Group, known for locations of Limani in New York and Roslyn, as well as Prime 1024 Steakhouse and Limani Mezze, also in Roslyn, just opened Limani Taverna in the former Oniro Taverna location in Woodbury.
The new restaurant concept blends the taverna aspects of Oniro with the elegance that has become synonymous with Limani. The new menu designed by Executive Chef Peter Spyropoulos (Le Cirque and Bouley) features inventive and playful dishes and reimagined Greek classics.
The remodeled restaurant space is expansive and bathed in earth tones and without dividers, allowing the space to truly open. The main dining room features tables adorned with white tablecloths and seashell-shaped lighting fixtures hung from above. A lounge area with an indoor fireplace can be found near a marble bar, perfect for an after-work drink and small bites. The windows are beautiful white carved arches that showcase antique ceramic vases. Limani Taverna also has a beautiful tree-lined outdoor patio.
A second level private event space with a separate bar provides the optimal location for all special events: bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, corporate functions, holiday parties and all celebratory occasions.
Chef Peter Spyropoulos was born in Queens but spent his formative years living in Greece. He attended the Culinary Institute of America where he worked his externship at Le Cirque and then spent four years working under Daniel Bouley at Bouley, making his way through the ranks. He went on to serve as the Executive Chef of Estiatorio Milos and was the opening chef at Avra Estiatorio.
The new menu at Limani Taverna features Appetizers like Lamb Riblets, chargrilled Colorado spareribs seasoned with lemon, oregano, and olive oil; Sesame Feta that has been reimagined for the new restaurant concept and is now wrapped in phyllo dough with mint honey and sour cherry preserve; and Spyropoulos’ mother’s recipe for Spanakopita made with fresh spinach, leek and feta cheese all layered in a crispy phyllo dough.
Main dishes are broken down into two categories showcasing their specialties: The Sea and The Land: including whole fish with a gorgeous presentation of Branzino, served with mixed vegetables and lemon potatoes; Sea Bass for Two, North Carolina wild caught sea bass; Lamb Chops, tender grilled lamb chops, served with lemon potatoes and tzatziki; and Filet Mignon Kebab, two skewers served with pita, tzatziki, and fries. A three-course Pre-Fixe dinner that is a value option reasonably priced at $35 per person with the option to add a glass of wine for an additional $6.
Two Makaronades or Greek pastas are showcased with selections like the Seafood Pasta, linguine with mussels, clams, calamari, and shrimp cooked in garlic and olive oil; and Astakomakaronada, a lobster pasta.
Lunch is served Monday through Friday from noon to 3 p.m. Light fare highlights include the Lobster Roll, Maine lobster, tomato, avocado, mustard mayonnaise, and romaine lettuce, served with house made chips; the Limani Burger, an 8 oz. prime beef burger topped with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, bacon, and white cheddar served with hand cut fries; and Prasini Salad, made hearts of romaine, scallion, sweet pepper drops, crumbled feta, with EVOO and red wine vinaigrette. A three-course lunch Pre-Fixe is also available for $28.50.
All the desserts at the restaurant are made in-house by Spyropoulos with traditional Greek desserts such as Baklava, layers of phyllo dough baked with honey, almonds, walnuts, and cinnamon; Ekmek, shredded phyllo layered with custard and topped with pistachio whipped cream; and Chocolate Soufflé. They also showcase a selection of seasonal gelato and sorbet.
beverage program offers a wide selection of Greek wines as well as a number of specialty cocktails such as Ananas, pineapple-infused vodka; Dionysus, fig-infused metaxa, Stoli vanilla, pomegranate juice, splash of lemon; and Simera, Aris Vodka, peach schnapps, passionfruit juice and cranberry juice. Guests can also enjoy their selection of coffees like Loumidis Greek Coffee and Nescafe Frappe, and teas such as Egyptian Chamomile and Earl Gray.
