On the evening of Oct. 29, 2019, UJA Federation together with The Safe Center will join efforts to raise funds for local victims of domestic violence. Jacqueline and Maurice Harounian are the recipients of the Humanitarian Award, and The Nussdorf Family is receiving the Business Leader Award.

UJA provides essential services throughout Long Island and nearby areas, including psychological and substance abuse counseling, kosher food pantry and financial support. Virtually all of local JCCs and synagogues (reform, conservative and orthodox) are referring individuals and families to UJA for these resources.

Importantly, UJA-Federation of New York services are provided to those of all backgrounds and faiths.

Jacqueline Harounian, who is being honored at the event stated, “During the past two years, I have been actively involved in the HOPE Committee, raising awareness for the most vulnerable victims among us. In this short time, I have seen amazing new initiatives come to fruition including The Safe Center’s resources for Jewish women at The Marion and Aaron Gural JCC in Cedarhurst and at Commonpoint Queens Sam Field Center near Great Neck.”

She continued, “For me personally, it is extremely gratifying to see women in action, empowering other women and families in need, helping them survive and thrive. I share this honor on Oct. 29 with Andi Black, Suzanne Cohen Gould, Jodi Greenberg Faden and the other dedicated women on the HOPE committee, Mindy Perlmutter Naiman of Jewish Community Relations Council – Long Island (JCRC-LI) who are passionate partners in this effort.”

Harounian has trained at The Safe Center as a rape crisis counselor and SAFER advocate.  Her law firm, Wisselman Harounian & Associates in Great Neck provides ongoing pro bono services for victims in Family Court who are seeking orders of protection.

The Hope event takes place on Oct. 29 at the Village Club at Lake Success. Cocktails, dinner, super raffles, “casual dressy” attire. Sponsorships and amazing raffles are available. Raffles include trips, Hermes bags and accessories, fine jewelry, Steven Dann and Americana Manhasset gift certificates and much more.
