Town Re-Opens Echo Park Complex After Refurbishment

Supervisor Laura Gillen and Councilman Bruce Blakeman get an update on the new LED lighting being installed at Echo Park pool.

Town of Hempstead Supervisor Laura Gillen and Councilman Bruce Blakeman recently toured the brighter and more inviting Echo Park Pool Complex just days before its Jan. 22 re-opening to inspect the recently completed work.

“One of the most unique features that Hempstead Town offers is an indoor pool facility,” said Gillen. “The work that has been completed will make this gem shine even brighter.”

Echo Park Pool was closed for most of the month in order to complete the approximately $208,000 refurbishment. In addition to the general maintenance that takes place annually at this time of year, several major projects were completed. Among those improvements were resurfaced men’s and women’s locker rooms, weight rooms, steam room walls and shower areas, refinished and resurfaced diving boards, new lockers in the men’s room and LED overhead pool lights. Additionally, new sinks were installed in the men’s and women’s locker rooms, steam room benches were rebuilt and pumps were replaced.

“I have such great memories of using the Echo Park Pool when I was growing up,” noted Blakeman. “It is great to see its current stellar condition and how it just keeps getting better each year.”

Echo Park is located at 399 Nassau Blvd., in West Hempstead. The indoor pool and fitness complex is open to all Town of Hempstead residents. Other than this brief closure each winter, the facility is open seven days a week throughout the year. The complex is also the location of year-round aquatic, physical fitness and cultural arts programs.
