North Hempstead Town Veterans Advisory Committee announced today that the town’s Department of Services for the Aging (DOSA) will be allocating seven to 10 hours a week of social work exclusively devoted to veterans’ needs. The availability of a caseworker will be at no additional cost to the town and will come from reallocating hours of an already existing case worker. There are approximately 1,200 veterans in the town.

“I am confident that this new allocation of hours for a dedicated caseworker will be of great benefit to our veterans,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “Our veterans have given so much to our community and our country and I am honored to be able to provide them with this service.”

The caseworker can address a number of issues for veterans’ including assisting them to access the benefits that they are entitled to and connecting them to services. The caseworker will work with the veterans by appointment at the DOSA offices located at Clinton G. Martin Park in New Hyde Park.

This is part of the ongoing effort to assist veterans in the town which has already included a donation drive through the Northport Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, a visit of the VA mobile van to a recent Town Funday Monday event, and a recent mailing sent to all homes in the town with pertinent contact information for veterans.
