As the weather gets colder, our hearts get warmer. When you bundle up in a hat and scarf, remember that there are other less fortunate than you who may not have access to cozy winter goods. This holiday season through Nov. 30, Friends for Life, in coordination with The Arbors assisted living communities will be collecting gloves, hats and scarves for veterans. All donations will be given to Stony Brook Veterans Home.

“We do things with the community…we give back all the time,” said Amy Recco, owner and executive director of Friends for Life Homecare/Medicaid Consultants/Senior Planning. “We wanted to celebrate Veterans month and I work with The Arbors on other events as well so it’s a good collaboration.”

Recco said she had already received a lot of hats, gloves and scarves by way of donations and the month isn’t even half over yet. Those interested in donating can drop off their items at Friends for Life, 1045B Park Blvd., Massapequa Park.

The Homecare facility also offers free monthly Caregiver Support Groups to anyone who may need support and guidance while caring for a loved one.
