In Sony Pictures Classics’ critically acclaimed film Puzzle, Kelly Macdonald stars as a subdued homemaker who has reached her early 40s without ever venturing far from home, family or the tight-knit immigrant community in which she was raised by her widowed father.

That begins to change in a quietly dramatic fashion when she receives a jigsaw puzzle as a birthday gift and experiences the heady thrill of not only doing something she enjoys, but being very, very good at it.

Macdonald gives a beautiful understated performance in the lead role, following decades of sitting on the sidelines in both major films and indies, including No Country For Old Men, Gosford Park, Trainspotting and Boardwalk Empire.

Irrfan Khan and David Denman costar in this delicate drama from director Marc Turtletaub (producer, Little Miss Sunshine).

The film opens Friday, Aug. 17, at Lowes Roosevelt Raceway 10 (Westbury), Malverne Cinema 5, Manhasset Triplex, Stony Brook 17, Farmingdale Multiplex 14 and Huntington Cinema Arts Centre 3.
