Visit the Long Island Children’s Museum this month for fun events and activities. Visitors to the LICM Theater are receiving musical messages about protecting the planet as they enjoy performances of Gruff! The Musical.

GRUFF! The Musical

Tuesday, May 29 through Thursday, May 31 at 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.; Friday, June 1 at 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.; Saturday, June 2 at 11:30 a.m.

Gruff! is an interactive, family-friendly and puppet-filled musical about saving the world from environmental disaster. In this reinvention of The Three Billy Goats Gruff fairy tale, audiences learn the importance of environmental stewardship. In a world where goats have transformed their home into a junkyard where nothing green grows, who can make a difference? Rebelling against the rules, a young goat named Gruf discovers the magically hidden Valley of the Trolls, the only surviving oasis of natural plant and animal life left on earth. Aquifer the troll convinces her to protect Troll Valley and work towards making rest of the world green again, but Gruf’s elders are not interested.

Ages: 4 and up. Fee: $9 with museum admission ($7 LICM members), $12 theater only.

stART (Story + Art)

Tuesday, May 29 and Thursday, May 31 from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Join each week and read childhood classics and introduce new favorites; followed by a take-home, book-inspired craft. This week is Basil’s Birds by Lynn Rowe Reed. After the story create a mini bird’s nest for your own feathered friend.

Ages: 3-5. Fee: $4 with museum admission ($3 LICM members).

May Flower Leis

Tuesday, May 29 through Thursday, May 31 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

May flowers are blooming in the museum this month. Create your own colorful, flower lei (necklace) to wear home.

Ages: 3 and up. Free with museum admission.

Kids in the Kitchen

Friday, June 1 from 11:30 a.m. to noon

Little chefs use real cooking tools (with some help from adults) to make easy, yummy, kid-friendly snacks from start to finish. As they make their treat, kids gain experience measuring ingredients, following directions and building their vocabulary. This week learn to make hot dog grilled cheese.

Ages: 3-5. Fee: $5 with museum admission ($4 LICM members).

Summer Garden Stones

Friday, June 1 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Join us this June and decorate your own colorful, garden stone to celebrate the arrival of summer.

Ages: 3 and up. Free with museum admission.

Messy Afternoons

Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Get up to your elbows in oobleck, clean mud and slime. Join for the type of artistic activities that everyone loves, but not one likes to clean-up after. Except us.
Ages: 18 months to 4 years. Free with museum admission.

The Long Island Children’s Museum is located at 11 Davis Ave., Garden City,. For the safety of visitors, Adults are not permitted in the museum without children; museum visitors under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Museum Hours: Tuesday-Sunday from 10 am. to 5 p.m. and most school holidays. Museum admission: $13 for adults and children over 1 year old, $12 seniors, free to museum members and children under 1 year old. Additional fees for theater and special programs may apply.
