Donald Mackenzie (R, C, I)

I am running for reelection as Nassau County 18th District Legislator on the Republican, Conservative and Independence lines. If reelected I will continue to support an agenda that emphasizes public safety, economic development and protecting taxpayers. Nassau County is the safest large county in America with overall crime reduced by 25 percent. In an environment where police are increasingly under attack and demonized, I will support their efforts to keep us safe.

We have launched an aggressive plan focused on job creation, retention and attracting new business. This plan includes 100 percent privately financed redevelopment of the Nassau Coliseum and the “HUB.” Research shows that the Nassau IDA created 23,900 jobs in construction and operation. Also, Nassau County enjoys the lowest unemployment rate in the region. Nassau will continue to grow and succeed with the right leadership.

The Republican majority in the legislature has saved each homeowner thousands in taxes at the county level. Furthermore, we have made additional savings through the downsizing of government, reducing the county workforce by over 2,000 workers, consolidating departments and savings from public-private partnerships. Let us continue to move Nassau County forward. Please support my reelection with a vote in November.

Dean Hart is running for Nassau County Legislator of the 18th District.

I am running for legislator because Nassau County needs a businessman who can’t be influenced by contributors or political bosses in order to get the county on solid financial ground. Nassau is classified as a financially distressed county, thereby creating additional costs that are passed to the taxpayer. County taxes keep going up on my opponent’s watch, after he promised not to raise taxes. I will promote an open, honest government and get rid of the cronyism and corruption that permeates the Mangano administration. Our elected officials should not be using taxpayer dollars to hand out jobs and contracts to family and friends.

As a successful local businessman, scientist and educator my campaign is almost entirely self-funded. It is clear to me the rules against abuses by politicians who use tax dollars as a private cookie jar are blatantly ineffective. As your legislator, I will be beholden to no one other than the taxpayer and will take no salary.

When elected, I will use my vast business experience to get the county finances back on track so our children will not have to pay for the county’s high taxes and debt load. Please vote for me on Nov. 3.
