Ellen Birnbaum (D)

Ellen Birnbaum is the 10th Legislative District incumbent.

As an active member of the Great Neck community for over 30 years, it is my privilege to represent the 10th Legislative District. Previously, as the town director of intermunicpal coordination, I had learned firsthand the complexities of the multi-levels of government. I listen to the needs of residents and have acted promptly to solve problems regarding public safety, such as traffic calming, lighting and potholes.

With a good working relationship with county departments, I was able to persuade the county to repave the worst part of Middle Neck Road in Great Neck. I have reached out to the many municipalities within the district to learn how the county could assist them in needed projects. I am proud to have sponsored nine pieces of legislation which have brought Community Revitalization Project funding for items such as LED street lights, trees and new road signs for villages, portable radios for Manhasset/Lakeville Fire Department and a new paved area by the Herricks Community Center.

I have also sponsored legislation which enables veterans to obtain a Nassau County Leisure Pass without ever having to pay a renewal fee. Future goals include re-opening both the Saddle Rock Grist Mill and the Sixth Police Precinct.

Lisa Benjamin (R)

Lisa Benjamin is running for Nassau County Legislature, 10th District.

She is a lifelong resident of Great Neck and a graduate of the Great Neck Public Schools. She is a mother of three beautiful girls and wife to attorney and former town council candidate Jeffrey Benjamin. Benjamin graduated from New York University with a degree in political science while simultaneously working in a top securities law firm in NYC. She soon realized her true passion was helping people, so she pursued and received a Master’s degree in education and counseling. That experience was invaluable as she counseled people of all ages and ethnicities to pinpoint and advocate for what would serve their best interests. Benjamin takes great pride in and is consistently recognized for her expertise in identifying issues and resolving them.

Benjamin began working at the North Shore Hebrew Academy 15 years ago where she worked her way up to the position of director of technology. Among many of her responsibilities, she mentored and trained all faculty and administration in educational technology and maintained the school’s systems. Benjamin now serves as a part-time consultant for the academy while she pursues a position in government service.

With the support of community leaders, residents and, of course, her family, Benjamin is running for the office of legislator to continue her pursuit of public service. She offers her skill and capability to achieve financial, security, accessibility and transparency goals. She does not believe in partisan politics, is an independent thinker and wants to take those strengths to the county legislature.
