Asbury Shorts USA presents its nationally recognized touring exhibition “The 38th Short Film Concert” at The Madison Theatre, located on the campus of Molloy College in Rockville Centre, on Friday, April 5, 2019. The first film blasts onto the screen at 7:30 p.m.

Asbury’s short film concerts feature the best in comedy, drama and animation without promoting competition. Screening classic shorts from the past combined with new international festival winners, Asbury Shorts USA provides a rare opportunity for the public to see world-class films on a real cinema screen as opposed to on YouTube or smartphones. The show has received critical acclaim, with Academy Award-nominated Director Jason Reitman (JUNO, Up in the Air, Thank You for Smoking) calling Asbury Shorts “the best short film show I’ve ever seen!”

Highlights of the April 5th line-up include Director Amy Nicholson’s documentary Pickle. The film examines the complicated relationships humans have with their pets in a film of unexpected warmth and mirth. Also showing will be Alternative Math from Dallas-based director David Maddox, winner of three Best of Show domestic film festival awards. The film focuses on a dedicated public grammar school teacher has a tough time with new attitudes in education and her stubbornness to defend her subjects leads to a riot and national debate. Also sure to delight audiences is The Caption, the humorous and surprising tale of a frustrated cartoon caption writer whose work is almost always rejected, a situation that starts to affect his marriage.

This showcase of major award winning short films is strongly recommended for ages 16 and way above. Tickets are $18 Reserved.

What began in a church basement in Westbury in 1980 has now grown to become a nationally touring presentation of the world’s best independent short films. Asbury Shorts Concerts have been presented at The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston; Royal Festival Hall in London; Lakeshore Theater in Chicago; The Osprey Art Centre in Nova Scotia; Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas; the Directors Guild Theater in Manhattan; The Vero Beach Museum of Art in Florida; The AERO Theatre in Los Angeles; Summer Stage in Central Park; and the Leminske Theater in Berlin, among others.
