While it doesn’t quite live up to the rush of hitting fifth gear going 100 mph down the Autobahn, but for Long Island residents feeling the need for speed, it may just be the next best thing. Pole Position Raceway, a Jersey City-based Go-Karting franchise, recently opened its fourth indoor speedway, and first on Long Island, in Farmingdale on Wednesday, July 23.
Located at 40 Daniel St. in Farmingdale, Pole Position Raceway’s 120,000 square foot facility boasts two quarter-mile tracks and the latest in high-performance, all-electric, indoor karts capable of speeds up to 45 mph. Pole Position Raceway features adult karts for racers who are at least 58 inches tall and separate junior karts for kids who are at least 48 inches tall. Pole Position president and co-owner Karen Davis-Farage said they brought in the latest and greatest Italian manufactured go-karts, which are capable of speeds up to 45 mph.
“Our biggest competition is perception,” said Davis-Farage. “When people hear ‘go-kart’ they think of the smelly loud gas engines you would find outdoors.”
Despite the misconception, the go karts are clean and green and run entirely on electricity. The new facility provide enough space for 10 drivers to comfortably zip around at a time with no fumes. Unlike traditional go karting, racers can compete and improve at their skill behind the wheel. Davis-Farage said she likes to call it “the new bowling” since it is something that can be done alone or in a group and provides for a memorable experience.
Pole Position Raceway offers a variety of options to suit the needs of all racers – from families, to die hard karting enthusiasts. Its “Arrive & Drive” racing is for those looking to race against others. Pre-Scheduled Racing events are for groups of 10+ and include the Pole Position Challenge, Grand Prix or Super Pole which are 2, 3 or 4 race events culminating with racers receiving 1st, 2nd & 3rd place medals at the Winners’ Circle. In addition to side-by-side race action, Pole Position Raceway also features authentic racing memorabilia, arcade games, concessions and V.I.P spaces for private parties, personal celebrations, corporate events and fundraisers.
