The Ramones may rightfully represent the early American roots of punk rock, but X unfortunately gets overlooked. Maybe it because they were cultivating a fanbase on the West Coast, didn’t sport leather jackets or come up with a stylistic template the way Joey and the boys did. But I’d certainly stack up Los Angeles, Wild Gift or Under the Black Sun up against Leave Home or Rocket to Russia.
Now you can do that yourself as this string of dates finds the original lineup, (including founding guitar-slinger Billy Zoom), playing all three aforementioned albums in their entirety along with More Fun in the New World—one per night. Thursday night kicked off with Los Angeles and with Friday (Gift), Saturday (Black Sun) and Sunday (New World) to follow.
