On Friday, November 7, The Guardian Brain Foundation celebrated 12 years of volunteering—and truly making a difference. This year’s theme, purple passion, came to life at the beautiful Carltun. It was an amazing, emotional evening.
The honoree was Douglas Mills from Printing Emporium, who does so much for the community and the foundation. The Guardian Brain Foundation also honored the loving memory of Giuliana Boudouvas, a beautiful 8-year-old, who tragically passed away four days after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. The Golden Guardians were Tina Dupuis, who’s raised thousands of dollars in her seven years of Bike Runs in loving memory of her father, who passed away from a brain tumor; Theresa Stepkowski, an amazing inspiration; and Christine Brunone, a volunteer at many of their events.

Publisher Angela Susan Anton was the highest bidder in their live auction to become a character in a James Patterson book.

The foundation’s mission is to celebrate life and help keep memories alive. The Guardian Brain Foundation believes in the quality of life and sharing compassion. The foundation provides support services to children and adults with brain cancer, tumors and traumatic brain injury (TBI), and helps bring awareness to Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD), a form of brain damage that leads to a rapid decrease of mental function and movement.

President and Founder Mary Pallotta said the foundation was created in loving memory of her brother, Dennis Pitti, who lost a three-month battle to a cancerous brain tumor, and her father, Salvatore, who was tragically afflicted with CJD. She channeled the pain into helping others. “Life is about choices,” said Pallotta, “and that’s why we choose to make a difference.”
