Taxi Driver Robbed At Gunpoint In Roosevelt

Nassau County police are investigating a robbery that occurred on May 3 in Roosevelt.

Police say at 1:07 a.m., after being dispatched to 24 Willow Street in Hempstead to pick up a fare, two black men exited the front yard and entered the taxi cab.

When they arrived at their requested destination on West Roosevelt Avenue, police say one of the men placed a black handgun to the 48-year-old male victim’s face and demanded money. After obtaining the victim’s wallet both men fled the cab and were last seen running between the residences of 69 and 71 W. Roosevelt Avenue into the rear yards.

The uninjured victim described the men as both being 6’0” tall. One was wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants. The other, who was armed with the handgun, was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

Detectives request anyone with information regarding this Robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-8477. All callers will remain anonymous.
