stephenkingNot many do it better than Stephen King, master of scare for decades, most notably since some of his very first books, Carrie (1974), Salem’s Lot (1975) and The Shining (1977).

Less than a month ago, King released his newest book, End of Watch, the finale in the Bill Hodges Trilogy, which began with Mr. Mercedes (winner of the Edgar Award) and continued with Finders Keepers.

In End of Watch, King brings the terror he is best-known for, supernatural suspense, combined with incredible detective fiction. Despite being in a vegetative state in a brain injury clinic, Brady Hartsfield, the “Mercedes Killer,” continues to drive his enemies and surviving victims to suicide more than five years after the initial massacre masterminding. Doctors assure that Hartsfield will never recover, but behind the drool and unresponsive stare, his deadly new power continues to grow, leaving a trail of victims without ever leaving his hospital bed.

BOOK_070616AWhen the retired police detective Bill Hodges and his sidekick Holly Gibney are called to the scene of what seems a murder-suicide, the duo is dragged into their most dangerous case, one that may risk the lives of many others in the process. It’s Hartsfield, and he’s taking the entire city this time.

Hodges and Gibney must race against time to uncover the truth and find a way to stop Hartsfield before they also succumb to his evil, supernatural torture.

Suspenseful and unnerving, King fans will immediately find End of Watch and the entire trilogy storyline like an old friend: kind of familiar, yet refreshingly new.
