Yes, it’s that time of year again. The temperatures begin to plummet, snow begins to settle outside and that dreadful cabin fever starts to kick in. However, there are plenty of things that you can do indoors to combat the irritability and restlessness that comes along with those wintertime blues.

For starters, crack open a good book. In the world of technology that we are now living in, reading a book can certainly be a relaxing activity. Books are a good way to escape whatever stressors you’re experiencing and can open up your imagination more than what some app can do. Grab a nice cup of coffee or tea, curl up near the fireplace or relax on the couch and start turning those pages.

Starting a new hobby is another option to defeat cabin fever. Gather the family around the table and do a puzzle together. Puzzling might be considered an old-school pastime, but there’s nothing more satisfying than knowing you put together a masterpiece with the ones you care about the most. Knitting, painting, doing crossword puzzles and word searches and creative writing are fun hobbies that you can do as well.

A cold winter’s night is the perfect time to try out that new recipe you’ve been planning on making for the past few weeks. For many, cooking and baking is a good way to relax and is also a good way to kill some time. A warm bowl of chili, meatloaf, chicken or beef stew or soup are definitely some tasty options to make while bundled up inside. If you’re not confident in cooking, practice makes perfect. Keep trying until you get your recipe just right.

Playing board and card games are a fun activity to do while indoors. Candy Land, Scrabble, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and Operation are top choices. For card games, Poker, Rummy, Blackjack, War, Uno and Go Fish are also recommended.

Watching a good movie or binging on the latest season of your favorite Netflix show is something you can’t go wrong with either. Why not veg out on shows such as Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, 13 Reasons Why or Fuller House? Watch movies on demand or pop your all-time favorite movie into the DVD or Blu-Ray player. Make yourself some popcorn, turn off the lights and enjoy the show.

It might not sound all that exciting, but get a jump start on some spring cleaning. Nothing will motivate you more to get rid of all your gathered clutter than the thought of the incoming spring weather where you can actually go outside and do fun activities. Plus, organizing your space is great way to get rid of stress and make you feel better about yourself.

Sleeping the winter away and wallowing in boredom will only make your cabin fever worse. When it comes to ways to beat going stir crazy, having fun and keeping active will help pass the time more quickly.
