Port Jeff Woman Arrested for Leaving Son Home Alone

Police arrested a woman for leaving her son home alone with no adult supersion overnight and into the afternoon on June 20 in Port Jefferson.

According to detectives, a six-year- old boy stopped a Port Jefferson village constable at approximately 12:25 p.m. and told the patrolman he was alone. Officers responded and determined the boy had been left alone since the night before.

After an investigation, police arrested the boy’s mother, Melissa Weiner, 31, of 129 Windward Drive, Port Jefferson. She was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. The boy, who was not injured, was released to a family member. Child Protective Services were notified.

Weiner was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on June 21.
