Play Fundamentals At LICM

Kids get the chance to create and sample simple recipes during LICM’s weekly Kids in the Kitchen workshop.

Children experience critical foundational learning skills wrapped up in a day of play at Long Island Children’s Museum. Daily early childhood programs allow young visitors to develop motor skills, cooperation and communication in a nurturing environment.

stART (Story + Art)

Tuesday, May 2, and Thursday, May 4, from 11:30 a.m.—noon.

Join the LICM each week as we read childhood classics and introduce new favorites; followed by a take-home, book-inspired craft.

Fee: $3 with museum admission ($2 LICM members).

Music and Movement

Wednesday, May 3, from 11:30 a.m.—noon

Enjoy creative movement exercises and interactive sing-alongs that get little bodies moving to the rhythm.

Ages: 5 and under. Fee: $3 with museum admission ($2 LICM members).

Kids in the Kitchen

Friday, May 5, from 11:30 a.m.—noon

Little chefs use real cooking tools (with some help from adults) as they make easy, yummy, kid-friendly snacks from start to finish. As they make their treat, kids gain experience measuring ingredients, following directions and building their vocabulary. This week’s project will be fruit ring pancakes.

Ages: 3-5. Fee: $5 with museum admission ($4 LICM members).

Teacher Act

Saturday, May 6, from 2 to 4 p.m.

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week. Join the LICM as we decorate colorful foam photo frames to gift to our favorite teachers. Put down your notebooks and pencils and pick up some stickers and magnets to make a fun craft.

Ages: 3 and up. Free with museum admission.

Messy Afternoon

Saturday, May 6, and Sunday, May 7, from 3:30-5 p.m.

Participants will be up to their elbows in oobleck, clean mud and slime for an afternoon of artistic activities.

Ages: 18 months – 4 years. Free with museum admission.

All activities will be held at the Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Ave., Garden City. For the safety of our visitors, adults are not permitted in the museum without children; all museum visitors under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Museum hours: Tuesday-Sunday from 10 am. to 5 p.m. and most school holidays. Museum admission: $13 for adults and children over 1 year old, $12 seniors, free to museum members and children under 1 year old. Additional fees for theater and special programs may apply.
