With only a week before Memorial Day weekend when our nation gathers to honor veterans and military personnel for their bravery and valiant efforts to protect our country, Councilman Dennis Dunne, Sr., Sr. Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby and Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney announced a proposal to extend discounted fees at Lido Golf Club for veterans and active military personnel. Joining the board members at the announcement were Sergeant Lebron and Sergeant Savange of the United State Marine Corps. and Commissioner Danny Lino, Town of Hempstead Department of Parks and Recreation.

“We owe our freedom to veterans and those currently serving to protect our country,” said Councilman Dennis Dunne, Sr. “As a Vietnam veteran and a town councilman, I am always looking for ways in which to help those who have answered the call of duty and I am proud to have led this initiative to honor those who protect us.”

Councilman Dunne, a former Marine who served in the Vietnam War and a former director of the Nassau County Veterans Agency, is also president of the Levittown/Island Trees Veterans Council and was the president of the Marine Corps Coordinating Council.

This proposed amendment extends the current discount to play golf at Lido Golf Club for veterans and active military personnel from two days a week to seven days a week for a savings of up to $7 for the 9 hole course and up to $17 for the 18 hole course.

“We are forever indebted to our veterans and military personnel for putting their lives at risk to protect our lives every day,” added Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney.  “This simple gesture goes a long way to show our gratitude.”

The picturesque 18-hole, par 72, 6,896-yard classic links-style championship course in open year round from dawn until dusk, weather permitting. The Lido Golf Club is consistently rated among the metropolitan area’s top 10 courses by golf publications. Amenities include a beautiful bi-level clubhouse with a deck overlooking the golf course and scenic Reynold Channel. The golf course also features a driving range, putting and chipping greens and daily-use locker rooms.

“Memorial Day is a day to pay tribute to our veterans and military personnel for their selfless sacrifices on our behalf and in honor of my late husband, a proud World War II veteran, I’m proud to support measures that help those who protect our way of life as Americans,” stated Senior Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby.

“Memorial Day weekend is set aside for remembrance, but is also the official kick-off of the summer season with many residents visiting Town of Hempstead’s parks and beaches and golfers enjoying our beautiful golf courses,” concluded Councilman Dunne.  “It is fitting that veterans and military personnel will have the opportunity this Memorial Day weekend to enjoy a round of golf at a discounted rate.”
