Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano recently hosted the 5th Annual Nassau Barkfest, Long Island’s Largest Pet Costume Contest and Parade, at Eisenhower Park’s Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre. The free event was sponsored by the Nassau County SPCA and Long Island’s K98.3 and attended by approximately 3,500 people and their pets.

In addition to the Pet Parade and Costume Contest, many participants brought pet food donations to help families in need. Furthermore, rescue groups and shelters were also in attendance and many had adoptions of dogs and puppies in their care.

“Thank you to all who attended and took part in our 5th Annual Nassau Barkfest,” said County Executive Mangano. “I thank our sponsors—Nassau SPCA and Long Island’s K98.3—for their generosity and thank the many rescue groups, shelters and animal friendly organizations who took part in this great event. For many of us our pets are members of our family and this was a great way to enjoy a nice afternoon together.”
