George Siberón Named To Board Of Trustees At Nassau Community College

Nassau Community College (NCC), is pleased to announce that George Siberón, MPA, MSW, has been named to its Board of Trustees by New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo. Siberón’s term began August 10, 2018, and ends June 30, 2024.

“On behalf of the Nassau Community College Board of Trustees, I welcome George Siberón, a great community activist and leader, to the Board and the NCC family,” said Dr. Jorge L. Gardyn, M.D., F.A.C.P., president of the Nassau Community College Board of Trustees. “George is an active advocate for the Latino community and beyond on issues of education and economic empowerment and will bring that passion to the college. That quality will be vital as he contributes to the vision and policies critical to the continuing success of this great institution and all of its students.”

NCC president Dr. W. Hubert Keen also welcomed Siberón to the College Board.
“I am delighted that George Siberón has been appointed to the Nassau Community College Board of Trustees. Not only is George a leader and activist in the Latino community, he’s also an advocate for excellent, affordable education for all,” he said. “His expertise and advocacy will serve Nassau Community College excellently as it strives to provide educational opportunity for all of our students. We know that George will bring a depth of passion and caring to his new role as trustee.”

Siberón is excited about his new role on the NCC Board.

“It is my great honor to be appointed to the Board of Trustees of Nassau Community College. Not only will I be able to advocate for an excellent, affordable education for all students, no matter their race, ethnicity or immigration status, but I will also be in a position to help shape the policies and direction of this great educational institution,” he said. “I look forward to contributing to the continued success of this college, where every student receives a first rate education at the lowest tuition of any college in Nassau County.”

Siberón is the Executive Director of the Hempstead Hispanic Civic Association, Inc., a not for profit community based organization that has been providing services to the residents of the Village of Hempstead and surrounding communities for 39 years. With more than 40 years of administrative experience, Siberón has also worked as Executive Director of the Nassau County Youth Board, District Manager for Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez and Deputy Director for Programs and Acting Executive Director of Aspira, New York.

Among Siberón’s board affiliations are the Dream Foundation, the Long Island Latino Students Advocates; and the Village of Hempstead Chamber of Commerce.

Over a distinguished career, Siberón has received many honors, including the Martin Luther King “Keeper of the Dream” Award from the Economic Opportunity Commission of Nassau County; the Top Advocate for Latino Empowerment award from The Hispanic Network, LLC; and the Long Islander Who Made a Difference Award from the Long Island Progressive Coalition.

After receiving his BA from Queens College, Siberón went on to earn a Master of Social Work degree from Fordham University and a Master of Public Administration from Baruch College, where he graduated with honors. He is also a graduate of the prestigious National Urban Fellows Program, and is a member of Phi Alpha Alpha, the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration. Siberón and his family live in Baldwin.
