Broadway’s Ruthie Ann Miles Struck By Tragedy

Yesterday afternoon, Broadway’s Ruthie Ann Blumenstein (stage name Ruthie Ann Miles) and her 4-year-old daughter, Abigail, were struck by a reckless driver in Park Slope, Brooklyn, along with Blumenstein’ friend, Lauren Lew and 1-year-old son, Joshua. The children did not survive and the mothers were critically injured. Blumenstein, who is pregnant, and Lew are now in stable condition. 

Blumenstein made her Broadway debut in 2015 in The King and I. She won a Tony award for her performance as Lady Thiang. 

The Broadway community is a generous one. The GoFundMe set up to help Miles through a difficult time raised $236,835 in 14 hours. Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster, Laura Benanti, Kristin Chenoweth, Lin-Manuel Miranda and other Broadway stars have used their fame to encourage donations. There has been an outpouring of love and sympathy on social media in light of the tragedy.
