The students of Nassau BOCES Long Island High School for the Arts (LIHSA) work together to plant the LIHSA Peace Garden in honor of the victims of school shootings.

The students, faculty and staff of Nassau BOCES Long Island High School for the Arts (LIHSA) came together this month to show their solidarity in the face of tragedy. Fellow artisans joined efforts to create a Peace Garden in the LIHSA courtyard in honor of school shooting victims everywhere.

Students planted 239 plants, commemorating each school or college campus shooting since the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012. The Peace Garden celebrates the vibrancy of life, artistically honoring the victims while uniting LIHSA students in the pursuit of peace. The garden features nourishing vegetable plants as well as brightly colored flowers in the flush of their first bloom, representing the unique beauty of each life lost and the importance of nurturing all life so that it can thrive.
