Motorists are advised that new nighttime closure hours for the eastbound and westbound Long Island Expressway (LIE/I-495) mainline in western Nassau County will be in effect  July 16 through  July 19, 2014. Between the Little Neck Parkway/Exit 32 and Willis Avenue/Exit 37 in Roslyn Heights, all travel lanes of the LIE mainline will be closed between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. July 16 and 17. On Friday, July 18, all travel lanes of the eastbound and westbound LIE mainline will be closed between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. And on Saturday, July 19, all travel lanes of the eastbound and westbound LIE mainline will be closed between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate travel routes or they will experience delays especially during the initial road closure changeover procedures at 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Drivers who do not use alternate routes will be detoured to the LIE north and south service roads.

These closures are needed as part of the NYS Department of Transportation’s (NYSDOT) $9.5 million project to resurface over four miles of the deteriorated LIE pavement in western Nassau County.

Drivers who cannot use alternate routes are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone for their safety as well as the safety of the highway work crew. As with most road projects, this construction work may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather. For 24/7 up-to-date traffic and travel information, motorists should call 511 or visit www.511NY.org. In addition, travel information can be obtained from the INFORM Transportation Management Center cameras at www.INFORMNY.com and on their hand held communication devices at www.INFORMNY.mobi.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists, businesses and local residents while this necessary road improvement work is undertaken to help assure the continued protection of all motorists.
