New Hyde Park Man Charged With DWI

A New Hyde Park man was arrested on May 17 and charged with driving while intoxicated with a 6-year-old child in the car.

Police say at 12:37 a.m. 50-year-old Ravinder Chopra was observed approaching a sobriety check point located near the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and New Hyde Park Road. When he was stopped by police, officers say they immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol and observed glassy blood shot eyes and slurred speech.

Chopra was placed under arrest. The child, a family friend, was unharmed and was released to the mother at the scene.

Chopra is being charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated and tinted rear side windows.
