MSG Network continues season four of its player’s “Beginnings” series with a glimpse into the childhood of Islanders star John Tavares. The half-hour episode goes home to Oakville, Canada, with the Islanders captain who grew up with one thing on his mind—hockey. At 14, he was the youngest player ever drafted into the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and by the time his junior career was done, he had broken the OHL career scoring record. Last year he was named to the 2014 Canadian Olympic Hockey Team, winning a gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
“People always ask me what I would’ve been if I wasn’t a hockey player and I say I really don’t know because I never thought about anything else,” Tavares said about his dedication and love for the sport. “[Growing up] I couldn’t sleep at night because I just couldn’t wait for the games to come. There’s nothing better than being on the ice.”
Beginnings: John Tavares will premiere tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 13 on MSG and MSG+ following complete coverage of the Islanders/Rangers game (10:00 p.m. on MSG+ and 10:30 p.m. on MSG).
