Meet The Cast Of Newsies At The Engeman Theater

You don’t have to go all the way to Santa Fe to catch a production of Newsies. The beloved musical is playing at The John W Engeman Theater in Northport through Sept. 2!

The 1992 Disney musical film starring a young Christian Bale attained cult status over the years. Loosely based on the New York City Newsboys Strike of 1899 achieved, the story was adapted into a highly successful Broadway musical that earned two Tony Awards in 2012.

Set in New York City at the turn of the 20th century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets.

This all singing, all dancing, high-energy show features a score by eight-time Academy Award-winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman, including recognizable tunes “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” “King of New York” and “Santa Fe.”

Hear from cast members Whitney Winfield, Dan Tracy, Allyson Kaye Daniel, Mike Cefalo, Tom Lucca and Zachary Podair in the video above.
