Awards season may be over but that doesn’t mean new and thought-provoking movies aren’t debuting in March. The weather won’t be the only thing keeping you guessing as the following films are loaded with action, drama, romance and thrills.
Premiering on March 3 is Logan, directed by James Mangold. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Dafne Keen and Stephen Merchant. Jackman reprises his role as Wolverine/Logan in the 10th installment in the X-Men film series and what is set to be his final reprisal as Wolverine. The tale takes place in the future where mutants have become near extinct. Logan attempts to live a routine life hiding from the world in a remote town. However, an enigmatic woman locates him to plead for his assistance with Laura, a young mutant, who is being tracked by evil forces. A must see for Wolverine and X-Men fans especially if this will be Jackman’s last performance in the franchise.
Kong: Skull Island (PG-13)
March 10 sees the debut of Kong: Skull Island. Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts with an all-star cast including Tom Hiddleston, Corey Hawkins, Brie Larson, John Goodman and Samuel L. Jackson, the King Kong legacy is getting a reboot. The exceedingly technically graphic movie is about an overzealous producer willing to go to extremes to obtain what he wants. The crew ends up on a remote island cloaked in mystery with prehistoric creatures and, of course, a giant ape named Kong. I for one can’t wait to see what this new take on a classic is all about.
The Zookeeper’s Wife (PG-13)
On March 31, audiences can see The Zookeeper’s Wife, a book by Diane Ackerman, based on a true story. Jessica Chastain, Johan Heldenbergh and Daniel Bruhl star. The film is directed by Niki Caro and follows Antonina and Jan Zabinski, (Chastain and Heldenbergh), during World War II as they helped save hundreds of animals and humans by concealing them in cages at the zoo. Chastain is brilliant in this biography about a subject some know little about.
Beauty and the Beast (PG)
Perhaps the most anticipated movie of the last two years, March 17 sees Beauty and the Beast grace movie theaters. Directed by Bill Condon, the movie stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the lead roles. Luke Evans, Ewan McGregor, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Stanley Tucci, Emma Thompson, Josh Gad, Ian McKellen and Kevin Kline also are featured in this Disney classic where a prince turned beast falls in love with a beautiful, intelligent girl.
A must see for all.
Power Rangers (PG-13)
It’s morphin’ time on March 24 with the release of Power Rangers. Directed by Dean Israelite, the film stars Elizabeth Banks, Bryan Cranston, Becky G., Bill Hader and Naomi Scott. Ludi Lin make his acting debut in this third film based on the Power Rangers. A group of teenagers are fortified with distinctive superpowers and soon find themselves vulnerable, attempting to save the world. For all ages, especially those who remember the original.
Make sure you grab your popcorn and drink; sit back, relax and enjoy the movie.
