Man With Gun In Hicksville

Stewart Ave. in Hicksville is closed down as police continue to investigate a man with a gun in the area, who is possibly suicidal.

Police responded to the area at around 2:30 p.m. The investigation is ongoing and helicopters are also at the scene.

Dutch Lane School and Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville are also currently on lockdown. Police advised the schools to go on lockdown at around 2:50 p.m.

UPDATE: Much to the relief of local community members and parents, Nassau County police have apprehended a man walking around Stewart Avenue in Hicksville with a gun.

According to a statement released by police, a distraught male was observed walking in the vicinity of Straw Lane with a gun pointed at his head at around 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 1. The male was apprehended without incident in a parking lot on Stewart Avenue and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Dutch Lane School and Holy Trinity School were on lockdown during the incident as a precaution and student were released at around 5 p.m.
