Man Charged With Threatening Lab

A Huntington man studying at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory was arrested July 16 for allegedly making terroristic threats.

Police say 26-year-old John P. Sheppard had been suspended from the lab for erratic behavior. After his suspension he made several threatening posts on social media which put the staff in fear of their safety, according to police.

The incidents occurred between May 19 and July 7. After an investigation, Sheppard was arrested at his home without incident. At the time of his arrest, police say Sheppard was in possession of an imitation pistol BB gun. No injuries were reported.

Sheppard is charged with six counts of Making a Terroristic Threat and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon 4th degree
