LIRR Provides Extra Trains For The New Year

290px-LIRR_logo.svgMetropolitan Transit Authority officials announced that the Long Island Rail Road will provide 12 additional eastbound trains from Penn Station and 20 extra westbound trains headed towards Penn Station and the Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn, on Dec. 31, for this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration, including the Elton John New Year’s Eve Concert at the Barclays Center.

To help travelers get home safely, the LIRR will also add 18 eastbound trains from Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day. Eastbound trains departing from the Atlantic Terminal will not leave until 20 minutes after the concert ends. 

Eastbound On New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31, 2014)

Babylon Branch will have six extra trains headed eastbound from Penn Station

  • 1:28 p.m. from Penn Station, running express to Rockville Centre and making local stops to Babylon.
  • 1:53 p.m.from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre and making local stops to
    Babylon.
  • 2:19 p.m. from Penn Station running express to Rockville Centre and making local stops to
    Babylon.
  • 2:32 p.m. from Penn Station running express to Lynbrook and making local stops to Babylon.
  • 3 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre and making local stops to
    Babylon.
  • 3:31 p.m. train from Penn Station running express to Rockville Centre and making local stops to Babylon.

With large numbers of customers taking advantage of these earlier departures, the LIRR will combine two closely-scheduled evening Babylon trains into one. The 5:59 p.m. from Penn Station will be cancelled and those customers accommodated by the next scheduled departure, the 6:05 p.m. train, which will run express to Merrick as usual, then make all local stops to Babylon.

Port Jefferson / Huntington Branch will have 3 extra trains headed eastbound from Penn Station

  • 2:08 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Mineola and all stops to Huntington.
  • 2:29 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park and all stops to Huntington
  • 3:24 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville.

Port Washington Branch will have 1 extra train headed eastbound from Penn Station

  • 3:40 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Woodside, Flushing Main St. and then all stops to Great Neck.

Ronkonkoma Branch will have 1 extra train headed eastbound from Penn Station

  • 1:46 p.m. to Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville, local to Ronkonkoma.

Far Rockaway Branch will have 1 extra train headed eastbound from Penn Station

  • 3:48 p.m. from Penn Station stopping at Locust Manor, Laurelton, Rosedale, Valley Stream and all stops to Far Rockaway.

Westbound On New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31, 2014)

Twenty extra trains to Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, have been added to schedules on the Babylon, Montauk, Port Jefferson/Huntington, Port Washington, Long Beach, Ronkonkoma and Hempstead branches.

Babylon Branch will have five extra trains headed westbound towards Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal

  • 5:47 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre and then stopping at Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn.
  • 6:20 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre and then stopping at Jamaica.
  • 7:24 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre, then stopping at Jamaica and Penn Station.
  • 8:09 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre and then stopping at Jamaica and Penn Station.
  • 9:05 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre and then stopping at Jamaica and Penn Station.

Montauk Branch will have one extra train headed westbound towards Penn Station

  • 8 p.m. from Speonk running local to Babylon, then express to Jamaica.

Port Jefferson / Huntington Branch will have seven extra trains headed westbound towards Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal

  • 4:55 p.m. from Huntington, stopping at Cold Spring Harbor, Syosset, Hicksville and Jamaica and Penn Station.
  • 6:39 p.m. from Huntington, stopping at Cold Spring Harbor, Syosset, Hicksville, Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn.
  • 6:59 p.m. from Hicksville running local to Jamaica and then Penn Station.
  • 7:10 p.m. from Port Jefferson, running local to Huntington, then stopping at Hicksville and Jamaica and then Penn Station.
  • 7:33 p.m. from Hicksville running local to Jamaica and then Penn Station.
  • 7:38 p.m. from Huntington making all stops to Jamaica and then Penn Station.
  • 8:25 p.m. from Huntington making all stops to Jamaica and then Penn Station.

Port Washington Branch will have two extra trains headed westbound towards Penn Station

  • 7:07 p.m. from Great Neck making all stops to Woodside, then Penn Station.
  • 8:42 p.m. from Port Washington making all stops to Woodside, then Penn Station.

Long Beach Branch will have two extra trains headed westbound towards Penn Station

  • 5:42 p.m. from Long Beach making all stops to Jamaica, then Penn Station.
  • 8:15 p.m. from Long Beach making all stops to Jamaica, then Penn Station.

Ronkonkoma Branch will have two extra trains headed westbound towards Penn Station

  • 7:42 p.m. from Ronkonkoma running local to Wyandanch, then stopping at Farmingdale, Bethpage, Hicksville, Mineola, Jamaica and Penn Station.
  • 8:39 p.m. from Ronkonkoma running local to Wyandanch, then stopping at Farmingdale, Bethpage, Hicksville, Mineola, Jamaica and Penn Station.

Hempstead Branch will have one extra train headed westbound towards Penn Station

  • 7:31 p.m. from Hempstead making all stops to Jamaica, then Penn Station.

Eastbound On New Year’s Day (Jan. 1, 2015)

Babylon Branch will have six extra trains headed eastbound from Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal

  • 1:13 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Lynbrook and all stops to Babylon.
  • 1:34 a.m. from Atlantic Terminal, stopping at Jamaica, Lynbrook and all stops to Babylon.
  • 2:04 a.m. from Atlantic Terminal, stopping at Jamaica, Lynbrook and all stops to Babylon.
  • 2:11 a.m. from Penn Station stopping at Lynbrook and all stops to Babylon.
  • 2:59 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Lynbrook and all stops to Babylon.
  • 3:29 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Lynbrook and all stops to Babylon.

Montauk Branch will have one extra train headed eastbound from Penn Station

  • 1:29 a.m. Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre and all stops to Speonk.

Huntington Branch will have two extra trains headed eastbound from Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal

  • 1:54 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then all stops to Huntington.
  • 2:14 a.m. from Atlantic Terminal, stopping at Jamaica, New Hyde Park and all stops to Huntington.

Port Jefferson Branch will have one extra train headed eastbound from Penn Station

  • 3:12 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, New Hyde Park and all stops to Port Jefferson.

Ronkonkoma Branch will have four extra trains headed eastbound from Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal

  • 12:49 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville and all stops to Ronkonkoma.
  • 1:39 a.m. from Atlantic Terminal stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville and all stops to Ronkonkoma.
  • 2:03 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville and all stops to Ronkonkoma.
  • 3:54 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville and all stops to Ronkonkoma.

Port Washington Branch will have three extra trains headed eastbound from Penn Station

  • 12:35 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Woodside, Flushing Main St. and making all stops to Port Washington.
  • 2:19 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Woodside, Flushing Main St. and making all stops to Port Washington.
  • 4:19 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Woodside, Flushing Main St. and making all stops to Port Washington.

Long Beach Branch will have one extra train headed eastbound from Penn Station

  • 2:44 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Valley Stream, all stops to Long Beach.
