Hempstead Woman Arrested For Shots Fired

A Hempstead woman was arrested on May 18 after police say they found her with a gun after responding for a shots fired call in Freeport.

Police say at 1:40 a.m. they responded to Leonard Avenue. Upon investigation, an officer observed a gold colored four-door Saturn sedan driving up and down the block in a suspicious manner.  The officer then observed the driver make an illegal U-turn and the vehicle’s driver’s side taillight was not functioning, according to police.

The officer stopped the car on Independence Avenue and found the driver in possession of a handgun.

Sharema Fields, 20, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a firearm. She also received traffic summons for the illegal U-turn, brake lights and an out of class license.
