Basket of organic produce.Fall harvest markets pop up Around Long Island

While some may believe the only colors of fall are red, orange and yellow, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Green markets are popping up all over the Island – upwards of 40 markets take place every weekend – offering everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to homemade soaps.  Most of the products at these markets have to be grown, harvested or caught locally and if processed foods are being sold, ingredients must be purchased from within the region. Take advantage of the fall weather and the grassroots feel of these markets by planning a trip. Here are some of the top prospects:

Spinney Hill
When: Sundays until Oct. 26
9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What: If you are looking for a place to snatch up some locally-grown, organic fruits and vegetables, Spinney Hill has just what you are looking for. Grab some fresh vegetables to make your favorite fall soup and some fruit for holiday pies.

In the Municipal Parking lot at Main Street and 25A
When: Sundays until Nov. 23
9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What: Love organic? Then this is the spot to hit! With a plethora of organic fruits and leafy greens, you will find enough wonderful things to inspire your inner Iron Chef. Specialties include Long Island corn. You will also find organic eggs, meat, fish, pasta and baked goods.

Kennedy Plaza
When: Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Nov. 26
What: Heirloom tomatoes, fresh fruits and juices and regional fish are just a few of the things you will find at this market. Additionally, there will also be cooking demonstrations and music at these markets, making it an event for the whole family.

Village Green on Main Street
When: Sundays until Oct. 24
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
What: Artisan breads are one of the biggest draws of this local market. Whether you want something to dip in soup as the warmer weather approaches or just a hearty, homemade chunk to butter, you will find exactly what you are looking for. Additionally, there is also a large selection of vegetables, eggs and pickles.

When: Tuesdays until Nov. 25
7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
What: Going strong for more than 23 years, the Long Island Grower’s market keeps adding new vendors every year. Soups, salads, honey, goat cheese, flowers, fresh roasted coffee beans and so much more take over the parking lot every Tuesday. Sample some fresh made crepes, bring home some grass-fed beef, chicken or goat and check out some jams and jellies by Miss Amy. Not in the mood for anything edible? The market also has homemade knits and soaps.

Crossroads Farm at Grossman
When: Thursdays until Nov. 20
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
What: Gentle Brew Coffee, Southern Belle’s BBQ, The Big Cheese, Nina’s Fresh Baked, Sugar Rush Bakery and more Long Island treats can be found at the weekly farmer’s market at Grossman’s.

LIRR Parking Lot #12
When: Sundays until Nov. 20
7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
What:  Chicken burgers, ravioli, soup stock and sauces make this one of the top markets to hit to stock up on some items for winter.  There are also homemade dog treats for your furry friend as well as baked goods for yourself. Blind Bat Brewery and John’s Yogurts rounds out the options.

Municipal Parking Lot Route 25 A
When: Sundays until Nov. 3
7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
What: From baked goods to pickles, you will find everything you need and more at Huntington’s weekly farmers market. Homemade granola bars and spreads — like hummus and chutney — bring something unique and fun to your table at home. Freshly-made crepes, stuffed breads, barbecue sauces and organic baby food make this a farmer’s market that shouldn’t be missed!
