Detectives are requesting the public help to identify and locate four men who assaulted and robbed a man in a wheelchair earlier this month.
A man confined to a wheelchair due to a prior motor vehicle crash was leaving the United Methodist Church, traveling northbound on Maple Avenue in Riverhead from 2nd Street at 10:30 pm on June 1. As he approached the Long Island Railroad tracks, he was attacked from behind by at least four people. The suspects knocked the victim out of his wheelchair and struck him with weapons, possibly sticks or pipes. They stole cash and prescription medications. The subjects fled on foot in an unknown direction.
