The Institute for the Study of Democracy and Liberalism presents “Racism: Ignorance or Evil?: A Public Lecture” by Daryl Davis, and a film screening of Accidental Courtesy: Daryl Davis, Race & America.
Davis has played music around the world with Chuck Berry and Little Richard. But it’s what he does in his free time that truly sets him apart: as a black man, he befriends members of the Ku Klux Klan.
Today, Davis has a collection of robes and artifacts from some of the hundreds of people who have left the klan because of his efforts.
Is this a good way to spark important conversations about race, or is Davis
doing more harm than good? Join LIU Post’s Institute for the Study of Demo-
cracy and Liberalism to investigate this question.
The mission of LIU Post’s Institute for the Study of Democracy and Liberalism is to promote a non-ideological inquiry into both ancient and modern forms of democracy and liberalism. In order for a civil society to remain healthy, its members must continually review and engage societal principles. Visit www.democracyandliberalism.org for more information.
