One person was killed and two others were injured in an auto accident in New Hyde Park on August 19.
Police say at 11:28 p.m., while traveling southbound on Covert Avenue in a 2012 Ford Fusion approaching the Long Island Railroad, the victim, a 55-year-old male, along with his 38-year-old wife and 6-year-old daughter, were struck by a 2003 Toyota Camry that was traveling westbound on Second Avenue at the intersection of Covert Avenue.
The vehicle was being operated by Deepak Kumar, 17, of New Hyde Park and accompanied by four other passengers, according to police.
As a result of the collision, the driver, who is not being identified at this time, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.
His wife, who was found unconscious and their daughter, who suffered a fractured leg, were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Kumar, who police say was found to be in an intoxicated condition, was placed under arrest at the scene without incident and was transported to an area hospital for observation. No other injuries were reported and both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety checks.
Kumar is charged with Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd Degree and Driving While Ability Impaired Drugs.
