DWI Crash Critically Injures Wyandanch Bicyclist

A Roosevelt man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after his vehicle struck and critically injured a bicyclist in Wyandanch early this morning, police say.

Marion Johnson, 63, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu northbound on Straight Path when his vehicle struck a bicyclist, Ishmeil Thomas, who was riding his bicycle on Straight Path at 1:27 a.m., according to police.

Thomas, 36, of Wyandanch, was transported via Wyandanch Rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where is being treated for multiple injuries. He is listed in critical condition.

Johnson’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

The incident is under investigation by the Vehicular Crime Unit detectives. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information on this crash is asked to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
