Couple Attacked, Thrown onto Hot Coals, in Inwood

Police report the arrest of a Far Rockaway man for assaulting a couple in Bayview on July 5.

According to detectives, Frederick Walker, 43, during a dispute outside a Bayview Avenue residence intentionally knocked hot coals from a grill onto the sidewalk and then threw a female victim, 56, into them. Allegedly, he then struck the victim’s head against the sidewalk and stabbed the victim in the neck with a barbeque utensil. A second victim, male, 59, struggled with the suspect and was also pushed onto hot coals. Both victims were removed to an area hospital where they were treated for lacerations and burn injuries to their arms, hands and legs.

Walker, of 433 Beach 40th Street, Far Rockaway, became combative as he was being removed to the hospital, and kicked an arresting officer’s hand. The officer was also treated at the hospital.

Walker was charged with three counts of 2nd degree assault, 3rd degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned at First District Court on July 6.
