Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Long Island’s 12th annual Brain Aneurysm Awareness Walk will be held virtually this year and encourage participants to walk, run, jog or do any other activity on or before Wednesday, Sept 23. The event is hosted by Northwell Health along with the Brain Aneurysm Foundation (BAF). Proceeds will benefit both organizations, raising funds to support essential research.

“While this is the first time we cannot do our walk in person, we will be virtually connected in this very important cause by celebrating brain aneurysm survivors, honoring those we have lost and spreading awareness,” said David Chalif, MD, chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Southside Hospital. “Being able to host the walk virtually allows people from all over country to participate in what was traditionally a New York event. Since the walk’s inception, thousands of participants have raised nearly $1 million. We are confident that this year’s virtual walk will build upon that success, raising critical funds for important brain aneurysm research and awareness education.”

Northwell Health and the BAF are asking brain aneurysm survivors, their families, as well as those who will walk in honor of a loved one, to post pictures of themselves on social media being active on or before Sept. 23, using the hashtag #LongIsland20.
