Purchases made on Dec. 18 will help to fund restoration project

“This is a wonderful way to support the efforts of the town and the Great Neck Historical Society as we work together to restore this maritime treasure,” said North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth.
Shoppers must give the ID number 12052858 to assure that the GNHS receives the percentage of the sale. In addition, anyone shopping online at BN.com from Dec. 18 through Dec. 23 may use the same ID number to provide a portion of their sales to the GNHS.
The historic Stepping Stones Lighthouse was built in 1877 and is currently in need of structural repairs. An evaluation done approximately five years ago, estimated the total restoration project to be approximately $4 million, according to town officials. Through a partnership between the Town of North Hempstead and the Great Neck Historical Society, the town provides in-kind services to assist with repairs. So far, funds for the restoration project have come through grants and private donations.
