Assemblywoman Gina Sillitti announced that her second annual Valentines for Vets program held in the month of February was a wonderful success.

“Building on last year’s program, our second annual Valentines for Vets program was a wonderful success,” Sillitti said. “The Valentine’s cards that were so beautifully created by our local students and community members helped warm our local veteran’s hearts and made the holiday extra special.”

In its second year, program participants included local students, faculty and staff from Great Neck Public Schools, the Port Washington Children’s Center, the Hillside Public Library, and The Nicholas Center. They designed Valentine’s Day cards as part of the program and local VA Posts helped distribute the creations to local veterans.

“I’m extremely grateful to the faculty and staff members who facilitated this program and the students for their hard work and creativity,” Sillitti said. “Every year, the Valentines for Vets program has been a fantastic way to brighten Valentine’s Day for our local veterans and show them how much they’re appreciated.”

“Just to bring a smile to veteran’s faces makes it all worthwhile,” said Andrea Nordquist, chapter president of the Military Blue Star Mothers of Nassau County.

The cards were distributed to local veterans’ groups: Albertson VFW Post 5253, Garden City Park VFW Post 120, Manhasset American Legion Auxiliary 304, Manhasset American Legion Post 304, Military Blue Star Mothers of Nassau County, and Port Washington VFW Post 1819. The continued success of the Valentines for Vets program is greatly due to the local community partners and their marvelous efforts and participation, Sillitti noted.
