American Cancer Society Relays For Life Across Long Island

Relay For Life Long Island ScheduleThe American Cancer Society is proud to announce that 28 community and school-led Relay For Life events and 6 college campus events are planned throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties in 2017. Residents can join together with the American Cancer Society to raise funds and awareness in an effort to free the world from the pain and suffering of cancer by participating, volunteering, fundraising or sponsoring Relay For Life.

Volunteers Needed

Each community will be kicking off their planning season and all are welcome to attend.  Volunteers are needed to help plan, fundraise, set up, promote, secure sponsors, organize a cancer survivor reception, plan opening ceremonies, event logistics, security and entertainment. “Whether you can offer a few hours or can help throughout the spring, the American Cancer Society has a role for you to become involved in this community movement,” said Patti Lestrange Mack, communications manager for the American Cancer Society.

Participating Communities

From April 7 through June 17, more than two dozen communities and schools will be celebrating and honoring cancer patients in treatment and beyond; remembering those lost to cancer and fighting back against cancer including:

Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Washington in 1985, the Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. “Uniting communities across the globe, we celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change,” said Patti Lestrange Mack, communications manager of American Cancer Society. “During Relay For Life events, members of each team take turns walking around the track or path. Teams participate in fundraising in the months leading up to the event.”

Funds raised help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Society has invested more than $4.5 billion in research since 1946, and have funded more than 20,000 scientists at more than 1,000 institutions nationwide.

Take action this year and help make cancer a priority by participating or donating to the Relay For Life movement. Visit RelayForLife.org to learn more, or contact Michelle Maugeri, senior manager of Relay For Life at 631-300-3453 or michelle.maugeri@cancer.org.
