30 Dogs Rescued From Euthanasia Up For Adoption At Little ShelterThe 30 dogs Little Shelter rescued two weeks ago from high-kill shelters in Texas will be available for adoption today. After a long journey being transported in a vehicle caravan across states, the dogs reached the safety of Little Shelter early Sunday morning on May 7. Each of the dogs have gone through a two-week quarantine period where they were also given behavioral evaluations by Little Shelter’s Dog Program Manager. Now that the quarantine period has ended the dogs are making their first public appearance this week as being available to loving homes.

The dogs are of various breed mixes, range in size from 8 to 25 lbs, and age from 4 months to 6 years old. Given the excitement and response from the initial rescue, we are predicting a line of people to be waiting at the gate Saturday morning in anticipation of having first pick of the newly available dogs. Little Shelter is open from 1 to 7 p.m. on weekdays and most of the dogs are expected to be adopted before the weekend.

“We have received a lot of emails and calls about these dogs since their initial rescue and just seeing the response from the community has been really something special,” commented Director David Ceely. “With the response we’ve gotten so far we don’t expect them to be available long.”

Little Shelter is currently accepting donations to help cover the $2,500 cost of the transport and fees to rescue these dogs.

Little Shelter is located at 33 Warner Rd, Huntington, NY 11743.
